द्र्ष्टि प्रसाद पुष्टि आयु: सुस्वप्न सुत्वक् दर्ढ्यकृत

Abhyanga is a type of Ayurvedic body massage done with warm herbal oils. It is a meld of two Sanskrit words, Abhi and Anga, that perfectly connote the significance of this Ayurvedic treatment. ‘Abhi’ means towards and ‘Anga’ means movement. Infused with medicated oils, Abhyanga is completely different from normal body massage. It helps to restore the balance of the body and aid in the treatment of many diseases including anxiety, stress and joint-related problems. Apart from being an Ayurveda treatment in itself, Abhyanga also serves as the prerequisite to Panchakarma therapy.

There are mainly five types of Abhyanga usually performed in Ayurveda. However, each technique depends on the diseases and disorders of the patient, their dominant Dosha and their body type. Each of these techniques serves a unique and extremely important purpose in both the treatment of diseases as well as the prevention of diseases. However, despite whichever Abhyanga is done, oil plays the most vital role in this Ayurveda treatment. The oil to be used can only be decided after consultation and diagnosis with an Ayurveda doctor, depending on your Dosha and other factors.
